AQUATUUR: Towards a higher climate robustness by using nature-based solutions
Aquatuur is a new Interreg Vlaanderen-Nederland project that will run from May 2023 to May 2026.
The overall goal of Aquatuur is to create a robust water system: one that has enough freshwater available at the right time with the right quality, and one that is at the same time also able to absorb climate shocks and protect our ecosystems while providing necessary functions and services. To achieve this goal, the project will demonstrate various nature-based green-blue solutions in the project region, being the mouth of the River Scheldt.
Aquatuur will be carried out by a consortium of nine partners (VITO-Vlakwa, HZ University of Applied Sciences, Inagro, the province of Zeeland, Ghent University, the Flemish Land Agency, the Flemish Environment Agency and the municipalities Noord-Beveland and Schouwen-Duiveland).
During the first day of WETPOL, the project will be presented to the audience by Simon De Paepe from VITO-VLAKWA during the morning plenary session. In the afternoon, a dedicated parallel session on Aquatuur is foreseen. Here, more details about the demonstration projects will be provided, and round table discussions will be organized to collect useful suggestions and comments on the planned Aquatuur activities.
